Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our electrical team in Virginia Beach or Hampton Roads. The Electrical Engineer will be an integral part of our team and have an opportunity to work with talented staff and be a part of one of the fastest growing and most critical segments of HDR.


Our need is for innovative design of facilities related electrical systems in support of a variety of markets including Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial and Federal Clients. As such this individual will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidsicplinary design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents and construction administration. They will be responsible for providing technical leadership involving the execution of electrical design scope and the development of drawings, specifications and supporting engineering calculations as well as the review of shop drawings during construction and other construction phase services. The role will include leading and mentoring designers and junior electrical staff and requires experience in the design of building related electrical systems such as lighting and controls, power systems (normal and emergency), and low voltage systems (telecommunications, security). This individual should be creative, self-motivated and possess strong leadership and communication skills with a passion to deliver technically excellent electrical designs.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • PE
  • 10+ years of experience in the design of building electrical systems (lighting/power/low voltage systems) is desired
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm required
  • Some travel required
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IECC and other building electrical codes required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience utilizing Revit, SKM Power Tools and AGI Lighting Software desired
  • Water/Wastewater experience a plus
  • Local candidates are preferred
