We are currently seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team. Location: Any of our Virginia offices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply complex engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on technically complex projects to produce design recommendations.
  • Manage complex projects from beginning to end with limited supervision.
  • Lead and direct projects with overall responsibility for technical accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Independently plan, coordinate, and direct projects and staff activities.
  • Produce and/or review proposals, reports, correspondence, and invoicing.
  • Monitor project budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor and develop Department staff’s technical and project management skills.
  • Attend project related meetings with clients, owners, and/or government agencies.
  • Routinely participate as an active member in professional and community organizations.
  • Routinely recognize, initiate, and advance business development opportunities.
  • Provide input on hiring and other staffing decisions.
  • Travel to other Firm’s offices, client offices, and project sites. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Adhere to company safety polices and use of supplied personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum 8 years of proven, progressive experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis) preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License in Virginia and North Carolina or ability to obtain through comity within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience in shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, retaining walls, seepage analysis, and pavement design required.
  • Experience in earth dams design and repair, laboratory testing, or landfill design desirable.
  • Demonstrated project management and client service skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A flexible working style and an ability to work independently and in teams.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
