Headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust (WHLR) was formed with the primary objective of acquiring, financing, developing, leasing, owning and managing income producing assets such as strip centers, neighborhood centers, grocery-anchored centers, community centers and free-standing retail properties. WHLR’s portfolio consists of strategically selected properties that are located in the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States, and are generally leased by nationally and regionally recognized retailers of consumer goods. Our specialties include, but not limited to Acquisitions, Leasing, and Property Management.

We currently are looking to add a Staff Accountant to our dynamic team! Essential Job Duties:

For all assigned properties:

  • Prepare all month-end journal entries to ensure financial statements reflect actual and complete results in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Coordinate the distribution of financial information amount internal and external parties as necessary (including lending institutions).
  • Ensure compliance with SOX directed internal controls (appropriate reviews).
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare documents for month end financial review with operations team.
  • Prepare lender escrow reimbursements.
  • Assist with Audit requests.
  • Prepare straight-line rent calculations.
  • Prepare and post-acquisition journal entries for new properties.
  • Update certain budget information as requested.
  • Continuously consider new ways of performing roles and responsibility more effectively and efficiently.
  • Perform other ad hoc analysis as requested
  • 1 to 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate settings or related industry.
  • 1+ years of experience with Property Accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
